Dr. Shaun Fleming was born and grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. He attended W.H. Ford Elementary and Michael A. Riffel High School. He moved away as a teenager to pursue hockey as a goaltender with many clubs such as the Swift Current Legionnaires Midget AAA and the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He then came back to Regina to play on the Regina Pats. He finished his junior hockey career with the Kindersley Klippers of the SJHL.

After completion of Dr. Fleming’s junior hockey career, he attended the University of Regina for his undergraduate education. After completing three years pre-Optometry courses all on the Dean’s Honour List, Dr. Fleming was accepted to the University of Waterloo in Ontario. To support his family and his Optometry education, Dr. Fleming would come home to Regina every summer to work as a labourer at the COOP Refinery. Dr. Fleming also completed an externship at the Eye Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he gained valuable knowledge about the management and treatment of eye disease. He also completed an externship at the Regina Lakewood Eye Health Centre and another in Guelph, Ontario. Dr. Fleming recently graduated in June 2008 with Honours from the University of Waterloo. He received the Alcon Continuing Professional Education Award and Prize for Academic Excellence in Ocular Pharmacology.

In his spare time Dr. Fleming enjoys spending time with his family. He is married and has two daughters. He also enjoys working out, running, hockey, all sports, and spending time in the backyard with his dog. A good conversation starter for Dr. Fleming would be anything having to do with the Calgary Flames or Saskatchewan Roughriders, and he will not hold it against you if you are an Edmonton Oilers fan.

Dr. Fleming is excited to return home and to serve the community that has done so much for him with high quality eye care.
