#NotInMyCity – About the Campaign

Right now, more people are in slavery than ever before. And they are enslaved through human trafficking.

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings. People – primarily young children – are being recruited, controlled, and used for sex and labour. They are being bought and sold against their will through force, coercion, and fraud.

93% of victims trafficked in Canada are Canadian citizens. Victims are trafficked from one place to another, often to large entertainment centres and sporting events. Police have documented trafficking activity at events like The Juno Awards, the F1 Race, and the Calgary Stampede. Events like these are targeted specifically by traffickers and create a demand for sexual exploitation activities. We are focusing our attention on these events in order to fight human trafficking.

#NotInMyCity is a campaign that seeks to raise awareness about human trafficking in Calgary, with a focus on sexual exploitation. Our goal is to raise awareness in the community, shine a spotlight on existing resources, and provide strategies to stand up against human trafficking.

Through the #NotInMyCity campaign, we hope to engage the Calgary community as we stand together and say “no more” to human trafficking.

Dr. Monea has teamed up with Sheldon Kennedy and Paul Brandt to fight human trafficking as part of the #NotInMyCity campaign.
