With now over 300,000 COVID-19 cases in Canada and showing no immediate signs of slowing down, masks are necessary (if not required in some locations). Masks save lives — however, they can also be uncomfortable, hot, and cause your glasses to fog up meaning your vision is temporarily impaired. Fortunately, there are ways to stop your glasses from fogging when your mask is the cause! Here are some handy tips that will change the mask-wearing lives of those who wear glasses.
1. Make Sure to Clean Your Glasses Properly
It's important that your glasses are cleaned properly in the first place. Ensure you have a quality pair (and when it comes to great eyeglasses, Calgary has many options). When you've settled on a great pair you love, make sure you're taking care of them. This means cleaning them with a small amount of soap, some water, and drying them with a microfiber cloth. When glasses fog up, it will often emphasize marks that are already there, which is the last thing you want.
2. Close the Gap by Pinching the Nose
If you're wearing a surgical mask, the fit at the top can be loose. There are many types of masks, but surgical ones tend to be the most common since they're easily accessible. With surgical masks, pinch the bridge of your nose to press the mask against your skin. This will stop some of the moist air from escaping. You can also buy strips of tape that will keep your mask in place.
3. Use Shaving Cream
By applying a thin line of shaving foam to the inside of your glasses and then gently wiping it away, the residue will keep moisture away. You won't be able to see what's left, but it will help!
4. Use Pipe Cleaners and Twist Ties Around the Nose
You might know how to wear masks, but do you know how to make your own? Some people have taken the time to learn! If you're making your own, you can insert pipe cleaners and twist ties on the inside around the nose. This will allow you to mould the mask to your face, ensuring that all moisture is contained, and none is escaping to the inside of your glasses. Problem solved!
5. De-Misting Spray
There may not be many specific sprays for glasses, but many de-misting sprays, in general, can work. Make sure it's safe to use on your eyeglasses and then spray some gently on the inside.
6. Move Glasses Further Down Your Nose
You should always be wearing your glasses properly and this isn't a long-term solution but moving your glasses further down your nose can help if you're in a situation where you need immediate relief. In the long run, you'll need to change the approach, but this will stop glasses from fogging up in the meantime. Foggy Eyeglasses for Calgary Residents No Longer Needs to Be A Pain!
