Dr. Diana Monea grew up on a farm near Rockglen, Saskatchewan. She attended the University of Waterloo, graduating with a Doctor of Optometry in 1978. She has since practiced in Regina, Saskatchewan, and subsequently opened two clinics in Calgary, Alberta. Over many decades of practice, she has developed a close personal relationship with thousands of patients. From her three free-standing optometric clinics, she continues to see patients of all ages, many of whom have seen her several times over the span of her busy career extending many generations in the same family.
Dr. Monea is committed to the very best diagnostic procedures, using modern digital imaging equipment in the pre-test, which provides a permanent, irrefutable, and highly objective record of eye health and eye conditions commencing with your first exam. Her mission statement is “to provide the best service and quality care for my patients, always with their best interest in mind; to listen carefully to their concerns and to explain matters concerning eye health to patients in a clear and complete manner.”
The internet has provided a terrific medium for providing patient information as it relates to eye health. Dr. Diana Monea became the first optometrist in Canada to create a website dedicated to the provision of eye health information when she created www.drmonea.com in the summer of 1999. This website has subsequently evolved into www.eyehealthcentres.com.
She became the first optometrist in North America to profile case studies in optometry, beginning in April of 2000. All digital pictures, corneal topography, and field analysis illustrations were drawn from her database of more than 200,000 eye exams that she has personally performed.
The coming-of-age of technology in the field of optometry will never replace the need for the human touch. Not only does Dr. Monea aim to provide the best care for her patients, but she has served as a leader, caregiver, and volunteer to countless others in many communities. She has given lectures to university students, seminars to health care workers, and mentored many optometry students. In addition, she has assisted in educating seniors on eye disease prevention, volunteered weekly helping school children learn to read and practice math, held clinics at the Regina Correctional Centre monthly for 15 years, and assisted at the largest nursing home in Saskatchewan, Pioneer Village.
Dr. Monea is the only optometrist on the E-Team, which is the only clinic in Canada that addresses and treats patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. She also spearheaded the Eye See…Eye Learn® program with Dorrie Morrie, from Essilor, to educate parents regarding the need for early eye health exams. With additional funding from the government, this program gives every child who attends kindergarten in Alberta one free pair of spectacles together with an eye-health exam.
Dr. Monea’s clinics in 2010 developed a charity called Anna’s Vision where homeless children, many of which have no health care, are given a free eye exam and free glasses (if required). This program in 2011 also was extended to assist Mother Teresa School, at the Regina office as part of an ongoing program where free eye exams and eyeglasses are dispensed annually to children who come from low-income families. This program also provides the same service to unwed mothers in school with the underlying principal that to learn you must be able to see.
In 2016 Dr. Monea was honoured by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce with a Leadership Award. That same year she was awarded the AAO Service Award August 2016 by her fellow peers in recognition of outstanding efforts and exceptional contributions made to the advancement of professional optometry in Alberta. Dr. Monea sits and actively participates in many professional committees as a volunteer.
In 2017 Dr. Monea is one of the few eye clinics in Canada to join Care 1 Telemedicine, the only tele-medicine network in Canada. A web of eye care doctors, optometrists and ophthalmologists collaboratively connected by the cloud to provide quick access to eye health care for the patient.
Dr. Monea operates full-service optometric practices in Calgary and Regina, specializing in the dispensation of high-quality designer eyewear and contact lenses. She features optical boutiques with electric and unique selections, with state-of-the-art lenses and contact lenses from the very best manufacturers.
Quality and service are Dr. Monea’s priorities. She provides her personal e-mail so many patients can reach her after hours from any location worldwide. She responds personally to patient concerns trying very hard to make a difference.
Giving back and caring, making a difference when you can drives her clinic philosophy. Dr. Monea and her staff of doctors contribute to many charities such as Easter Seals, local hockey and sports teams, kids programs, golf events and recently together with Paul Brandt and Paul Hardy to end human trafficking “Not In My City”.
Dr. Monea is always available for home visits to shut-ins: as in nursing homes, hospices etc. Many times she is asked to speak professionally and personally on many topics and always obliging to do so.
Dr. Monea loves what she does, it is her passion, and to make a difference in the lives of every person she meets, even in a small way, especially children. If she can help, she will and is totally committed to the welfare of her patients.
Dr. Monea is a proponent of lifetime learning. In October of 2017 she completed her FAAO designation. Her future endeavors include learning another language and writing a book!

Dr. Poncsak appreciates all types of optometric practice and loves seeing patients of all ages, but has a soft spot for paediatrics and children and would love to see your little one starting at age 6 months!
Dr. Brendan Warner grew up in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where he completed both elementary and high school within the city. During his younger years, Brendan was an avid competitor in the sport of fencing. It was in this sport that he was able to become the Under 13 Provincial Foil Champion as well as later in 2007 he became the first alternate to go to the Canada Winter Games for Team Saskatchewan. Other areas of interest for Brendan include playing the piano and completing up to the Bronze Medallion level in swimming courses. After graduating from Carlton Comprehensive High School in 2010, Brendan decided to attend the University in Regina after being accepted to both the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan.
After three years of working towards a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the U of R, Brendan gained early acceptance to the University of Waterloo Doctor of Optometry program. It was during this time that Brendan was really able to realize how confident he was that he had chosen the correct profession for himself. This is a passion he hopes to bring into his daily primary care practice for those patients that could benefit. Brendan completed ocular disease and therapeutics internships in Waterloo, Ontario, as well as Dallas, Texas. To complete his education, Brendan finished primary eye care rotations through clinics in Moose Jaw and Nipawin in Saskatchewan. Upon graduating, Brendan also received the Dean’s Honour List distinction with his Doctor of Optometry degree.
When not working, Brendan particularly enjoys fishing, boating, and camping in the summer as well as snowmobiling and skating in the winter. Now as he becomes established in Regina, Brendan hopes to one day take up playing the piano and fencing again. Brendan welcomes both new and existing patients to Lakewood Eye Health Centre and looks forward to getting to know as many of our patients as possible.
